The following community are the main focus of our initiatives

Juang

The Juang people are a tribal community residing mainly in the hill ranges of Keonjhar district in Odisha. The word Juang is said to mean "man" in their language. They belong to the Austroasiatic language family and share similarities with the Munda group. Traditionally, Juangs were forest dwellers practicing shifting cultivation, gathering forest produce, and hunting. Today, many are involved in marginal farming and wage labor. They retain a vibrant oral tradition and folk culture but suffer from high poverty and low literacy levels. The Juangs are categorized as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG).

PAUDI BHUYAN

The Paudi Bhuyan are a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) residing mainly in the hilly regions of Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Deogarh districts in Odisha. Traditionally semi-nomadic, they practiced shifting cultivation and depended on forest resources for sustenance. Over time, many have settled into permanent habitations and taken up subsistence farming. Their language is a dialect of Odia, and their cultural practices reflect a blend of animism and Hindu influences. Despite their rich cultural identity and close-knit social structure, the Paudi Bhuyan face serious developmental challenges, especially in education, healthcare, and access to basic services.
