Unified Action Council (UAC) is a non-government and non-profit voluntary organization operating in Odisha (India). The organization had its maiden entry into social action during disastrous super-cyclone period that struck Odisha during 1999 having impact upon lives and livelihood of millions. Since its inception, the organization has been encountering with choices for envisioning an alternative development that shares and promotes equity in socio-economic condition of resource poor and vulnerable mass.
In works we focus on rights based approach towards mainstreaming children in tribal and vulnerable area through educational approach and promoting enabled environment having definite community participation. In community based approach gender mainstreaming remains priority focus. We implement and support action on the ground that aims at improving quality of life through inclusion process and initiatives that include people’s access and control over natural resources, livelihood management and increasing to health services and delivery system. We also implement advocacy, research and capacity building projects that focus on enhancing knowledge and involving policymakers, the media and the private sector on identified priority issues. The projects and programmes that we implement are innovative, scalable and aim at changing socio-economic outcomes.
Since its inception, the organization has been encountering with choices for envisioning an alternative development that shares and promotes accessibility to quality education in remote tribal belt and also, equity in socio-economic condition of resource poor and vulnerable mass.
With changing dynamics, the organization focuses its work in vulnerable tribal pockets with prioritizing on educational mainstreaming, sustainable livelihood coping mechanism and traditional rights over forest resources management. Subsequently, the organization jumped into an array of activities in tribal belt of Kendujhar and adjoining tribal districts that involved: Promoting mainstream and inclusive education, Child Rights promotion, Child nutritional security, Recognition of forest rights, Livelihood coping system vis-à-vis minor forest produces, and building district level platform – a stakeholders’ network for promoting educational environment in backward district.

UAC has team of 17 Full-timers and 35 part timers all educated and professionals having 5 – 15 years of experience is dealing with different domains of work.
UAC has 7 Executive Council (EC) members who have distinct presence in social sector. The Executive Council provides oversight and counsel to UAC. It comprises 7 independent members with distinguished records of association with public life
Nimain N Satapathy, Co-founder and Secretary of the organization, working as Chief Functionary, has more than 30 years of experience working with long-term foreign donor projects, state & central government projects, multi-stakeholder networks, and civil societies.
He has played a key role in implementing projects in interior pockets of Odisha supported by ILP-USA, DFID, SPWD, JDF, and DST (Govt of India). He has also led Participatory Strategic Planning across NGOs in Odisha and neighbouring states.
With a strong academic background—Post-graduation in Sociology, Fellow’s Programme, and a Master in Development Management from ISEC/IIM/FAIR, Bangalore—he has also undertaken many specialized short-term courses.
His past roles include Coordinator for EED, Germany/GPC Package Programmes and consultant to Plan International, ILP-USA, and ActionAid International.
